Napoleon Hill once penned this quote “When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound; rebuild those plans and set sail once more toward your coveted goal."
Recently I am seeing the realization of a goal I wanted for so long. This was a goal that popped in my head as a teenager yet it took almost thirty years to really came about. As a teenager, I used to fill notebooks with stories and even submitted a few to various places. Then my kids began arriving, life was happening and my dream was pushed back and forgotten.
This morning I am looking back over the past few months and taking stock of how far I have come professionally and it blows my mind. I accomplished that dream I had back so many years ago and damn that makes me feel good. I did not give up on the dream ever; I just had to redefine it. I finally was recognized for my short stories and well they are moving! The Replacement, aka Stella was earmarked for publication back in July 2010 and in mid September 2010, it was published. I will never forget the day I went to Amazon, typed in my name, and up popped the book.
Here it is just two weeks after that book came out and I have written two more stories, which will be published in an upcoming book at the end of October 2010. I am like man it took me all these years to realize the goal and here I am soaring now. I am currently working on a few short stories for the Christmas book, which will be released in November 2010. With the help of the editors, I am seeing my books pop!
All of this is proof positive that I should not give up; all I needed to do was to redefine my goals. Yeah the novels remain on my pc and they will most likely become novellas I am not experienced as a writer to create a novel, the short stories are a stepping stone to that. Novels are a huge undertaking that require tons of work and frankly, I do not have the time to do them.
I do however have enough short stories to almost fill a book of my own, so that will be my first solo project. In the mean time, I’ll keep doing as I am, working hard to achieve my dreams and make them a reality.
